Arctium lappa, commonly known as burdock, is a biennial plant native to Europe and Asia, but it has become naturalized in various parts of North America. Burdock has been used traditionally in herbal medicine, and its roots, seeds, and leaves are all utilized for culinary purposes. In culinary applications, young burdock leaves are sometimes consumed as a vegetable in certain Asian cuisines. The taste is sweetly pungent and agreeable.

  • Burdock has been used in many folk remedies as one of the best blood purifiers. It contains certain diuretic principles, which help expel toxic products from the blood through urine.
