Description

Latin Name : Quercus Robur

Origin Country: Luxembourg

The Common/English Oak is a hardwood tree native to eastern North America. For centuries, the bark of this hardwood tree has been used to treat a variety of health conditions.

Common/English oak bark contains numerous nutrients including vitamin B12, iron, and potassium. The key component of the Quercus Robur is tannin, which gives it its astringent and antiseptic properties.

As an astringent, the hardwood constricts the body’s tissues both internally and externally to treat bleeding and diarrhea, as well as hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and other skin conditions. Quercus Robur has been effectively used against urinary tract infections, dysentery, and vaginal infections.

Common oak bark also has natural diuretic properties meaning that it can help promote both the frequency of urination and the amount of urine you produce. Quercus Robur can help to treat infections of the respiratory tract. Its saponin content means that it might have expectorant properties suitable for getting rid of mucus and phlegm from the respiratory system.
To make an infusion, place one tablespoon of dried herbs into a ceramic teapot, mug or mason jar for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer) and let steep for 10-15 minutes or overnight.
Oak bark might be safe for most people when taken for up to 3-4 days for diarrhea. Oak bark can cause serious side effects such as stomach and intestinal problems, and kidney and liver damage. Oak bark might be safe for most people when applied directly to the skin for up to 2-3 weeks.
