Dandelion is a very rich source of beta-carotene which we convert into vitamin A. This flowering plant is also rich in vitamin C, fiber, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus. It is a good place to get B complex vitamins, trace minerals, organic sodium, and even vitamin D. Dandelion contains protein too, more than spinach.

  • Digestive Aid – Dandelion acts as a mild laxative that promotes digestion, stimulates appetite, and balances the natural and beneficial bacteria in the intestines.

In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of dandelion root to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Add one spoonful of honey at a time and dissolve over very low heat until you reach desired sweetness. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot.
Dandelion is likely safe for most people when used in medicinal amounts short – term. . People who are allergic to ragweed and related plants (daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds) are likely to be allergic to dandelion. If you have allergies, be sure to check with your healthcare provider before taking dandelion. Its use should be avoided by people with low renal function and renal colic. Take dandelion for two to six weeks at a time. Be sure to take a two week break before resuming use. In any case you should consult with your doctor before using any herb especially if you have health problems.
