Description

Latin Name : Scrophularia Nodosa

Figwort is a bitter herb, which after drying its bitterness is not very intense. Contains saponins, glycosides, flavonoids, resin and organic acids. The leaves and the root are used for therapeutic purposes.

–  Figwort helps to remove toxins from the body thus helping the body function better.

–  This herb is considered particularly effective in treating chronic and serious skin conditions, such as acne, psoriasis and eczema as it has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

–  When figwort is used externally (as an ointment), then it is considered particularly effective in the treatment of hemorrhoids and herpes.

 

 

Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of the root to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot. . Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want one spoonful of honey at a time and dissolve over very low heat until you reach desired sweetness.
Figwort stimulates the heart and we should avoid using the herb when there is tachycardia. We should not go beyond the recommended dosage because it is a powerful herb and in extreme situation it can act as a poison. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
