Giloy plant is an Ayurvedic herb that has been used and advocated in Indian medicine for ages.

The Giloy stem is used for various medicinal advantages and can be consumed in either a powdered form or can be boiled into a soup or Kadha. Giloy Kadha : Take a few Giloy stems and boil them in water (400ml) till the water is reduced to one fourth. Cool the liquid and strain. Giloy Satva: •Take Giloy stem and a vessel. •Crush roughly and soak in enough water for about 6-8 hours in the vessel. •After this, mash the stem properly to enable the release of starch into the water. •Place the vessel undisturbed for sometime to allow the starch to settle down at the bottom. •Take out the clear water carefully without disturbing the starch sediment. •Dry this starch completely under shade to get Giloy Satva. Take 1 pinch of Giloy satva, mix it with honey and take it twice a day after taking food.

There are no serious side-effects that occur due to the short-term consumption of Giloy. It is not known how safe it is when it is used on a long-term basis, that is, 8 weeks or more. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, then it’s always better to avoid Giloy due to the lack of scientific evidence. Tinospora cordifolia might lower blood sugar levels. Use it cautiously if you have diabetes. It might cause the immune system to become more active, therefore, it is advisable to avoid Giloy along with immunosuppressants. Since Giloy may interfere with the control of blood sugar during surgery, as well as afterwards. It is best to stop taking this herb in any form 2 weeks prior to a scheduled surgery.
