Description

Latin Name: Rheum Palmatum L.

Origin Country: China

Rheum palmatum, commonly known as Chinese rhubarb or Turkey rhubarb, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the regions of China, Tibet, and Mongolia. It belongs to the family Polygonaceae. It has large, triangular or heart-shaped leaves that are deeply palmately lobed. The flowers are small and greenish-white, arranged in large, dense panicles.
The taste of rhubarb is tart and acidic, which is why it’s typically combined with sweeteners such as sugar or honey when used in culinary preparations.

– Rheum palmatum has traditionally been used to promote digestive health.

– Rhubarb may have hepatoprotective properties, meaning it could help protect the liver from damage.

– It contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce inflammation in the body and alleviate symptoms like arthritis.

– It contains Antioxidants, which may help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.

To make an infusion, place 1-2 teaspoons of powder in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 10' to 15' minutes or overnight. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavour.
Rhubarb is generally considered safe to use short-term (up to 16 weeks), but possible side effects include stomach and intestinal pain, watery diarrhea, and uterine contractions. Long-term use can result in muscular weakness, bone loss, potassium loss, and irregular heart rhythm. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
