Description

Latin Name : Marrubium Vulgare

Origin Country: Poland

White horehound is a plant. The parts that grow above the ground are used to make medicine.

White horehound is used for digestion problems including loss of appetite, indigestion, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and liver and galdbladder complaints. It is also used for lung and breathing problems including cough, whooping cough, asthma, bronchitis and swollen breathing passages.

Women use white horehound for painful menstrual periods.

People also use it for yellowed skin (jaundice), to kill parasitic worms, to cause sweating, and to increase urine production.

White horehound is sometimes applied to the skin for skin damage, ulcers, and wounds.

In manufacturing, the extracts of white horehound are used as flavoring in foods and beverages, and as expectorants in cough syrups and lozenges. Expectorants are ingredients that make it easier to cough up phlegm.

Ιnfusion: place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 1.5' to 2' minutes. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavour. The daily dosage often recommended by herbalist to reduce a sore throat and loosen phlegm is one cup three times a day and this corresponds to an intake of approximately 4.5 g of dried herb.
Studies suggest that usage of white horehound over an extended period of time may lead to high blood pressure. This plant should only be taken as needed and not on a regular basis. In large doses, the herb may cause irregular heartbeat so people with heart problems should consult a professional health care provider prior to use. The fresh plant has been known to cause skin rash in sensitive people. Dust from the dried herb can irritate the airways, so it might be a good idea to use a face-mask when processing the plant. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
